April 2014 SHARE Food Network Menu

April 2014 SHARE Food Network Menu

The SHARE Food Menu for April 2014 has been released. The Jefferson (VA) Ruritan Club uses the SHARE Food Network to help feed their sponsored needy families. Some club members use SHARE Food for their own families as well.

This is a great way to save money on food – and you do not have to disclose income. You do not need to be receiving food stamps. The food is top-quality. If you are not taking advantage of this opportunity to get good food for little money, it is a crying shame!

The “Order Turn-in date” is the date that the organizers have to turn their orders in to the warehouse, so place YOUR order by the day before. The pick-up dates on the flyer indicate Friday as an option, but it is NOT an option here in the area – the pick-up date is Saturday only.

Note: In Virginia locations only: prices do NOT include a $1 surcharge to offset the price of gasoline for our volunteer drivers who use their personal vehicles to drive to the warehouse to pick up the shipment to bring to the local host sites.

When you place your order, please check with the coordinator for the appropriate pick-up time for the location you will be using.

There are three local distribution locations near the Jefferson (VA) Ruritan Club where area residents can pick up their food orders:

Questions/Orders:

Amissville United Methodist Church
14760 Lee HWY
Amissville VA
Barbara 540-937-2693

Bealeton VA
Liz 540-273-5695

Bread of Life Ministries
405 Sperryville Pike

There is also a local distribution location near the Jefferson (MD) Ruritan Club where area residents can pick up their food orders. In some cases, the SHARE Food volunteers will deliver the food to the customer from this location. The $1 surcharge does NOT apply to this pick-up location:

Questions/Orders:

(The Community Building, access from rear parking lot from Kossman Alley.)
1305 North Market Street
Frederick, MD
Jim Shabelski, 301-695-8263 or 301-651-9129

Story from the Frederick News Post website:

The Jefferson Ruritan Club recently dedicated a veterans memorial for the Jefferson community. It recognizes local residents who gave their time and energy to one of the armed forces. The memorial is located at the entrance to the Jefferson Ruritan Center on Lander Road in Jefferson. Along with the memorial, engraved pavers for specific veterans have been laid at the base and have been provided by loved ones. An illuminated U.S. flag is continuously flown at the site. To learn more about the memorial, visit jeffersonmd.net. From left are Steve Spohr Juan Stull and George Stauffer, all unveiling the monument; and Jay House, citizenship and patriotism committee chairperson.

The Jefferson VA Ruritan Club donated $100 February 19, 2014 to the US Vet Source Inc charity that had been featured during the November 2013 general membership meeting. Attached to the check was a note stating “With great respect for your work for the Board.”

This donation demonstrates the type of Leadership that Ruritan National President Elliott Hogge spoke about at the National Ruritan Convention in January 2013 when he encouraged all of the local Ruritan clubs to do something special this year to honor veterans.

US Vet Source, Inc., is a 501(c)3 Charity in Culpeper VA. The charity is dedicated to helping veterans and their families that are suffering from PTSD. US Vet Source is looking for volunteers to help work on the facilities, and fund-raising help to help provide these vital services to the men and women who served our country.

Hunters for the Hungry certificate 2013

Hunters for the Hungry certificate 2013

During the January 29 2014 Ruritan Rapidan District’s Annual Presidents and Secretaries meeting and dinner, the Hunters for the Hungry! passed out certificates of appreciation to the local Ruritan Clubs that had donated money to their charity. The Jefferson VA Ruritan Club’s President and Secretary did not attend the meeting, so the award was given to a District’s Lt. Governor for safekeeping, with the understanding that the certificate will be delivered to the club in the near future.

It’s always nice to be appreciated!

At the February 18 2018 meeting of the Jefferson Ruritan Club, the question arose about how much value this website had brought to the Jefferson VA Ruritan Club. Since the webmaster of the website had not been advised prior to the meeting that this would be discussed, the webmaster indicated that numbers would be provided in the near future. This is the “report” being provided here, on this website.

Provided below is a copy of the screen shot of some of the site statistics of this unofficial Jefferson Ruritans website that were taken today, March 7, 2014. If you want to see the image better, you can click on the “plus” sign in the upper right hand corner of the frame, and that will enlarge the image for you.

Essentially, the statistics show that since the website was created in June of 2013, there have been 2,063 views. During the 2013 fund-raising Turkey Shoot season, which was mostly October and November, the website was visited 342 times in October, and 435 times in November. Newcomers to the Turkey Shoot, when asked how they had heard about the Turkey Shoot, often said that they found out about it through this website.

The Turkey Shoot, which the club had considered abandoning in early 2013, due to lackluster performance in recent years, was voted by the club to be held in 2013 “one more time” with the thought that it would be heavily marketed through this website and other media not used in the past, and IF the Turkey Shoot performed well, the club would consider continuing to hold Turkey Shoots in the future.

Although the webmaster of this website does not have the exact figures to put on this website, the club has declared that the Turkey Shoot performed well enough to make plans to buy ammo for the next series of Friday Night Turkey Shoots later this year.

Although there is no proof that the existence of this website resulted in any new members joining the club, there IS proof that new Turkey Shoot competitors arrived because of the existence of this website, and this website is proud that it played a part in the preservation of the Jefferson Ruritan’s Annual Friday Night Turkey Shoots, and hopes that the Jeffersonton Community enjoys the fun of Turkey Shoots for decades to come!

Below this is the chart with the statistics. If you click on the link below the chart, it will download onto your computer in PDF format if you wish to store it there and then open it using your own Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

Culpeper Parks and Recreation was gracious enough to agree to run this PSA in their paper publication that is mailed to all Culpeper Residents.

In addition, the Culpeper Parks and Recreation webmaster agreed to include a link on their Sports Leagues & Community Organizations page to the National Ruritan Club’s page that lists the individual club’s links. Through that link, people can locate the website of the clubs that have websites, and our club is listed on that page.

Here’s a screen shot of that page!
